Turkey vs. Ham
I, like most people, don’t eat turkey year round. So turkey day is exciting for me.
But there is another meat that is popular during this holiday. That often tries to steal the show.
That would be the holiday porky friend ham.
Now I myself do not partake in this salty nemesis, so I may be a bit bias.
Which is why I pose the question to you.
There are many other meats that get to grace the holiday table during turkey day.
But all of my years I have only seen the ham come close to taking the shine of the turkey.
I have friends and family who preferred ham over turkey.
Or look forward to ham more than turkey.
But I am a turkey girl true to my heart.
I honestly do not like ham but love bacon. I am told this makes me a hypocrite but I digress.
Let’s stack up the versus.
I am told by ham lovers that turkey is too dry.
But when cooked properly turkey can be just as juicy. Then there is gravy and cranberry sauce.
I am told by turkey lovers that ham is too salty.
But when cooked down properly you can get the right amount of salt
and add pineapples for a sweet balance.
I also get that turkey can be difficult for some to cook, but like with anything else it takes time.
All I can say to those who have a hard time.
350 in the oven and bass every hour.
Then there are the leftovers. You have your ham, which can go great with breakfast.
But our old friend turkey can’t be counted out here.
I have made great turkey omelettes, scones and eggs Benedict.
There are also sandwiches and salad you can make from both.
So when stacked up side by side they seem evenly yoked.
Even though traditionally thanksgiving is turkey day and ham is normally for Christmas.
Ham has managed to share the spotlight for our tables for decades.
So I pose this question to you.
