Jerk Chicken Soup, Heritage & Stretching the Pack

This week’s Book & Bite Tuesday isn’t just about food, it’s about heritage, flavor, and creativity in the kitchen.

Our featured dish is my Jerk Chicken Soup, featuring Lucky Cajun seasoning. A recipe that brings together bold spice, comforting warmth, and a surprising level of versatility that can stretch not only your pockets and your pantry. But your back and belly too.

Earlier this week on Monday & You, I reviewed Lucky Cajun’s “What A Jerk” seasoning.

Now, while my personal connection to jerk seasoning comes from my Jamaican heritage, Lucky Cajun’s blend still carries the signature depth and bold flavor profile that defines jerk seasoning as a whole.

It includes the key hallmarks that make jerk seasoning so powerful; warm spices, layered heat, and the ability to transform simple ingredients into something rich and unforgettable.

Although I added a few additional spices to enhance the flavor and bring in my own cultural depth, Lucky Cajun’s What A Jerk seasoning provides an excellent base to build on.

If you missed Monday’s episode, be sure to go back and listen as we break down the history and lineage of jerk seasoning:

• How it originated in Jamaica

• How it evolved through culture and survival

• How it eventually became a widely recognized seasoning here in America

Understanding the history behind the flavors we cook with helps us appreciate the people and traditions that shaped them.

At Cooking with Positivity, we are intentional about honoring those who came before us while building something meaningful for those who come after us.

This week’s Jerk Chicken Soup is also part of our Stretch the Pack philosophy, meals that maximize ingredients and feed both the belly and the budget.

This dish proves that comfort food doesn’t have to be expensive to be flavorful, filling, and deeply satisfying.
